Dempsey Racing now fields two Mazda RX-8s. The notable distinction of a Mazda RX-8 is the rotary engine. Mazda rotary engines have a reputation for being relatively small. They are starting to become popular with kit car builders, hot rodders and in light aircraft because of their light weight, compact size, and tuning potential stemming from their inherently high power to weight ratio.
The 20B three-rotor engine is the cornerstone of Mazda’s Grand Am GT RX-8 program, and based on the engine used in the RX-8 street car. With its compact size and light weight, the rotary engine brings with it a vast history in sprint and endurance racing.
