Patrick Dempsey the Race Car Driver

When you think of Patrick Dempsey perhaps you think about his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy. Or maybe you fondly remember him as Ronald Miller in the 80′s teen comedy “Can’t Buy Me Love”. Or, maybe you remember his romantic proposal in Sweet Home Alabama. Patrick Dempsey, the actor, has played a variety of roles in film and television, and will be remembered for them.

But, Patrick Dempsey is also a Race Car Driver. His role of Race Car Driver is not to be confused as an actor dabbling in driving fast cars. Patrick Dempsey is serious about the sport of road racing and often admits that it is his passion. Not only does he co-own Dempsey Racing, a team that competes in the Rolex Grand-Am GT Series, but he also drives for the team. He also co-owns Vision Racing.

He has driven in a variety of world-class races including the 24 Hours of Daytona. just recently Patrick and part­ner Joe Fos­ter raced with Don Kitch and Team Seat­tle at the LeMans where they came in 9th in their class and raised $258, 800 for chil­dren hospitals

Where did his love of fast cars come from? His love of the sport came about when he was a boy and would watch racing with his Dad. Then, about 5 years ago his wife encour­aged him to take lessons to race by buying them for him as a gift. She appar­ently had enough of the SpeedTV chan­nel and sent him off to learn some­thing he loved. Thank goodness she did, because Patrick Dempsey is excelling at the sport.

Now, Dempsey is a full fledged race car driver and co-owns a few rac­ing teams as well.You can tell by the images you see of him rac­ing that this is a true pas­sion for him and that he loves what he is doing.

Patrick races for one of the teams he owns, which is Dempsey Racing (used to be Team Hypersport) – paired with a hot Mazda RX8- you just can’t lose!
